The Power of a Laugh and a Smile

Intimacy and love, are two emotional pillars that all humans seek out on some level, at just about any time, in life, but even more so during times of emotional distress. The guy with ordinary looks, not from money or fame, may be a hopeless romantic, with little or no wooing skills, still gets the girl. You know why? Because along with all the caring and loving, he could make her laugh.

Everyone who doesn't live under a rock, has in some language or another, heard the phrase 'Laughter is the best medicine'. It is a simple yet scientific truth for just about any emotional or psychological problems commonly faced by most people. The ability to make people laugh is the best gift to have. I'm not saying you need to be a comedian, or always make jokes, or need to make people laugh out loud. All it takes, is that one humorous witty line, or action, in the opportune moment, to make someone smile or just giggle, and a connection is established. Some of the walls of formality meant for strangers, dissolve instantaneously in that one funny moment.

So, quite clearly, the ability to make another laugh, is very important in finding and maintaining an intimate and or loving relation. It doesn't necessarily mean a relationship, it could just be a friendship, but held together by a strong bond that is built around the simple reason that they make you smile and laugh.
Now, everyone has a different take on what classifies to be called funny. Each person has their own sense of humor, and so, the same joke or wit may not work every time. This difference allows a person to identify with those of similar tastes with whom you can have strong relations, and filtering out the others. Of course, you can be sure about those people becoming special over time, but it all starts with that first laugh. A girl will always think more of things that her friend or her boy does that made her smile and laugh, than the emotional moments. If you look up the science of this, you'll probably read how certain stimuli causes some form of reaction that may release a kind of fluid inside your body that causes all this, but basically, laughing is healthy in every way.

I would also like to mention that I was inspired to write this post after having watched the movie 'Hasee toh Phasee', an entertaining  bollywood Romantic Comedy. After coming out of the cinema hall, my mind was flooded with memories of how I, or others I knew, had been able to create and maintain strong and or intimate bonds with people, all started with one funny incident. But wit and humor can do so much more, it allows you to meet new people, create an understanding and trust with them, break the ice of formality with strangers which happens regularly in business, and generally be the person that people like to be around. That is the power of laughter.

To end this post, I would like all you readers to take a moment, and think of people who are important in your life, beyond family, the people who gave you reasons to smile, to laugh and to be happy. Till the next one, au revoir.
