The Odd Choices that affect the Even Minded

Delhi's Odd-Even rule regarding traffic congestion to reduce pollution levels has been a hot potato, with some trying to claim its success and others trying to distance themselves from it.

If you haven't been paying much attention to the news, heres a brief on what it was. From 1st to 15th January of 2016, the AAP govenrment in New Delhi implemented a traffic law in its testing phase that allowed only the cars with even numbered plates to enter the city on even days, and odd numbered ones to enter on odd dates. Of course there were exemptions for public transport and emergency vehicles, and exceptions for emergency situations. Makes sense right? Wait, it was also not valid for women drivers, single mothers, two wheelers, CNG cars and a few more. Okay, now you're taking a piss.

While most people followed this god awful policy, it did result in fewer cars on the road and fewer jams. But at the end of it, lets see if it achieved what it said it was supposed to, lowering pollution levels. Results show, not really. There were still too many vehicles across the city, and the pollution levels were still way above permissible. The public transport of course failing to cope with the added rush, needs much upgrading. And it did well to piss off a lot of people like me who don't live or work in Delhi(used to), but need to travel across it because no dumb fuck ever designed a road to bypass the ever-expanding capital.

And for some inexplicable, fucked up reason, not only does the AAP government hail it as a success, but so do many people, albeit these are the people who voted in crazy majority for this government. Oh, other states want to get in on this madness too. WTF IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE?!

I am all for cleaner air, less cars on the city roads, and a greener Delhi. But to have a policy that says I can't use my car to get to where I need to go because I have the wrong number plate or am travelling on the wrong day is simply intolerable, I would happily not use my car for daily commute if the public transport was reliable and didn't feel like a fight for survival every time I boarded the metro at Rajiv Chowk or a bus from Pragati Maidan. I would carpool if I could trust the other guy to show up on time to pick me up or to be picked up. I would buy an electric car, if they didn't cost more than an entry level sedan. But to tell me that I CAN'T take my car because my license plate is odd numbered on an even number date? HOW IS THAT A MATURE POLICY DECISION!?!?!

I have some quick tips and alternatives to improve air quality in Delhi, since that was your main objective #AAP:
1. Remove subsidies on diesel for private vehicles
2.Regulations for more efficient engines and fuel technology for cars

3.Make it easier to sell and buy electric cars
4.Introduce congestion tax
5.Improve public transport at the execution level

Get it you numbskulled, knee-jerk-policy-making twats and retards?!!
Am out!
