Sane Bike Loony Rider Ep 8 : Evening Ride on the Trail
Soo, again, after a break of almost 2 weeks, I went for a ride(yesterday), this time with the fellas from the group. This was on the same old plantation trail, but without the expert guide, and our first ever evening ride.
I rode to the home of one of the main organizers of the group, in the afternoon when it was sunny and hot. We loaded up 4 cycles in his car and headed to the start point which was the Gunjur Club. There was an unusual amount of traffic for a Saturday afternoon, and half the riders were stuck in traffic too and were late like us. Only the guys who rode till the start point reached on time, which was 4 of the 8. We were almost an hour late from the schedule time for the ride, but during that time the weather took a turn for the better.
We finally started our ride down the trail, most of it still familiar to me, slipping and sliding around on the loose sand, trudging through the muddy bits thanks to rain the day before. Half the group was on MTBs and was enjoying riding on a terrain that suited their bikes to a T.
We had two main checkpoints in mind from the previous ride through the Gunjur trails, one was the spot with the tree full of fruit bats, and the second was the giant ancient Banyan tree. The fig tree checkpoint was cancelled because the main guys forgot the route, but we discovered a nice peaceful road between villages.
The weather meanwhile was so scenic, I'd need to be an award winning screenplay writer to describe it, but I can write. The sky was a peaceful blue with the orange tint merging from the setting sun as we got closer to sun down. The wind caressing us with cool fingers, unrestricted by the lack of any major buildings around, only the stretch of trees and plantation plots. Me and 6 other riders(one guy had to leave early) just pedaling down the smooth empty roads, the chatter and laughs between friends and the mild buzzing of our tires on tarmac. To make the most of it, I even rode for a bit with my helmet under my arm to let the breeze run its fingers through my hair and tickle my head.
It was a short ride, and we agreed that evening rides, as pleasant as they could be, would be logistical nightmares to reach the start point by car and going back after. So, we may try it again, but early morning, and there are few more interesting rides planned for coming weekends, and I'll go with the group if I can.
