The Zoosome Weekend!!
We'll get to what this post is about in just a minute, but first, Hi! Hope you're doing fine! Again, I know this one is coming after a loong break, and the reasons are a combination of laziness, fewer interesting rides, not going to movies, and being overall less angry in life. So, to all my regular readers, I apologize, but I also appreciate you all, thanks so much for your support, and I hope I can keep you all entertained with my writing.
Now, THIS post is about the previous weekend, ie, 28-29 May. Sooo, I haven't been home to Delhi in 6 months now, and besides my parents, I really miss the few true friends I have, and so when one of them says she is coming to Bengaluru for work and is free to spend the weekend with me, I cancelled every other plan I might have had.
Now, I'm not gonna bore you with every lil detail about this awesome weekend, just the best highlights (even though all of it was the best for me). To start off, it took me a really long time to get to where my friend was, even by B'lore standards, because it rained. But, that meant the weather was amazing for the night and the next day too!!
I can't explain the feeling of seeing your best friend from college after almost a year, that too in a different city. It is just such a wave of relief from life-stress and happy fuzziness, throughout your being.
Soo, we spent the night walking around, talking, catching up a bit, finding a nice place to eat and beer up, and while we were both tired, the weather was just worth being out. We finally found a place and had some nice beers, some food, and a lotta fun being silly. For that night, my friend had her company hotel room (a real snazzy one), so that's where we spent the night. Two things, first, not the most comfortable bed, but a nice view and a classy room. Second, if someone had told me at age 17 that at age 21 I was gonna be spending a night in a cool hotel in a different city with a hot girl, it would be as her friend, I would have taken it as a major burn to my then "King-of-the-freindzone" situation, just sharing a thought, but with no complaints. I am very lucky to have relationships where life is that uncomplicated thanks to trust and honesty.
After a not so comfortable sleep, we finally got up and checked out and headed out for a late breakfast at one of the local brekkie points on route to our next stop for the weekend. We headed to the one of the most popular parts of town, to look for a room for Sunday night, just a place to crash at the end of the day. I never really thought how difficult it is for a non-couple duo to get a cheap room in this country, but it is. After much net surfing and calling, we finally got a room that was brilliantly located, but quite pricey for how shit it was. There was this moment when me and my friend looked at each other as we kept our bags, and she said, "This is why we need better jobs, so we can afford better rooms when we hang out". One of the highlight quotes of the weekend I might point out.
Being me, I had never really hung out in this part of town but there was a lot to see and explore in terms of shopping and food, and we had half a day to ourselves. So, we walked around a lot, talked, had ice cream, found a place for lunch, then a cool shop for TV show, comics and anime/manga merchandise where I bought something nice and simple for an important person, and then my friend bought a cool painting for her important person, which left us respectively broke. We headed back to the hotel to rest and to decide about dinner.
We were sure we didn't want to eat anywhere that they were televising the IPL final that night, and that we wanted wine. So we got the wine and left it at the hotel's fridge and had some before we headed out, just talked and caught up a bit on each other's lives. We finally went out for dinner, found a place to eat eventually, enjoyed a nice meal and headed out to get nice ice cream again.
We came back to the room with our packed servings of ice cream with fresh mangoes and finished our wine, while talking and watching comedy videos on my laptop. I'll take this moment to point out something that I was thinking about, on the topic of friendships and important people in our lives. I realized how lucky I am to have a friend like that, to share such a simple, fun, joyous experience. It's not just how we spent the weekend, it was fun because we did all that, together. Its not just what you do, its who you do it with that makes it a truly treasured experience.
Anyway, she had to catch a flight back to Delhi early next morning and I had to go back to work, so we didn't stay up too late. I woke up probably 5 mins before she did, and I will admit, its tempting to slap-wake your friend when you know they need to be up, but I resisted the urge and snoozed a bit. When I woke up, she was already packing cuz it was time to go, and she had to catch her flight. We had a quick goodbye, and I saw her off in her cab, but it didn't really sink in till I was in office as per routine, about 4 hours later. I had just had one of the best weekends of my life with my best friend from college, and I don't know when we'll meet again, but I knew, reassuringly, that she is someone I know I will always count as my friend.
