Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them : Movie Review
When the movie starts and I heard the all too familiar tune from the Harry Potter movies when the big WB logo comes on screen, my heart began to flutter, an excitement similar to the little me when I sat down to see the Potter movies. I will say this before I share my review, if you are a fond fan of the world that has been part of our childhoods, the one woven by J.K. Rowlings, you should definitely give this film a watch.
The plot of 'Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them' begins with our lead character, Mr Newt Scamander ( Eddie Redmayne) arriving in New York, a city where the wizarding world was working hard to stay hidden from the Muggle world, or the No-maj folk as they refer to them here, while some protest that the strong should not have to live in hiding.
Set in 1926, Mr Scamander has just completed his global expedition to find, research and document an array of the most magical and fantastic creatures, to expand his peers' understanding of them and even to save some of them from extinction. However, for a man tasked with such a delicate mission, Newt seems a bit clumsy, though he might have completed his trip to the States without incident if he had not bumped into a certain No-maj, a man named Jacob Kowalski (Dan Fogler). One lil bump that leads to mixed up suitcases, escaped beasts and the unfolding of a darker issue that plagues New York, which is where our adventure lies.
The cast and characters around Eddie Redmayne and Dan Folger do a brilliant job too, with Colin Farrel playing the suspicious character of Mr Greaves, a senior Auror from the Magical Congress of the United States of America. There is also the important character of Tina Goldstein ( Katherine Waterston), former Auror who first arrests Newt and then helps him recapture his escaped pets.
The animation job on all the magical beasts has had mixed responses, and while they maybe could have been better, there was no disappointing moment, not for this viewer. The screenplay for this movie was written by J.K. Rowling herself, this being the first instalment of the five-part series of films around the Potterverse. This one has been directed by David Yates, the same who did the last four of the potter movies, which to be honest were disappointing to the fans of the books, but this time he seems to have done a decent job. Seeing that he will be the director for the next one was well, let's hope he does it even better.
I'd rate this movie 8 and a half cookies outta 10. Thanks for reading, stay tuned for more reviews from the Loon!
